about me

Hi! 👋🏼 I'm Carolina Menezes, an electrical engineer who discovered that making complex things understandable was its own kind of engineering problem, and never looked back.

I studied Electrical Engineering at UFF in Brazil, was awarded a scholarship to study a year at Queen Mary University of London, and completed an MSc in Power Systems Digitalization. None of that was a straight line to technical writing, but the overlap is larger than it looks. Engineering teaches you to think in systems, trace dependencies, and develop a critical eye. That mindset, and a comfort with the unknown I brought back from London, is probably why technical writing fit. For an engineer who liked figuring out how things worked, the transition was natural.

Since 2021, I've been at VTEX, one of the world's leading commerce platforms, where I've grown from writing API references and developer guides to leading the team responsible for our documentation strategy, tooling, and platform. My work sits at a crossroads I find genuinely interesting: I write, I code (TypeScript, React, Next.js, GitHub Actions), and I think about how organizations build and maintain knowledge at scale.

This blog

This is where I think out loud about things that don't have clean answers. How is AI changing what it means to build and explain systems? What separates documentation strategy that scales from the kind that collapses under its own weight? What does it feel like to grow a career in a field still figuring itself out?

The posts here are exploratory and personal. I write to figure out what I think. If something resonated, I'd love to hear from you.

Community

I believe knowledge isn’t something that should stay concentrated in a few hands. It grows when it circulates, when more people can reach it, question it, and build on it. I've contributed to Tech Writing Brasil, mentored through Black Tech Writer, and spoken at EmpowerElas in support of women in STEM.

Outside of work

I'm endlessly curious about how the world fits together (countries, cultures, and the unexpected ways infrastructure shapes daily life). I draw and paint. I travel when I can. Coffee is non-negotiable.

I'm based in Brazil. Find me on LinkedIn and GitHub.
