As I dive into building my own blog, I've been spending a lot of time exploring other personal websites. It's been an inspiring, sometimes overwhelming, deep dive into how people are carving out their corners of the internet. And what I noticed is that the most memorable sites to me weren't necessarily the flashiest or the most technically sophisticated. Instead, they were the ones brimming with genuine personality.

These are the blogs where creators aren't afraid to let their unique tastes, quirks, and passions shine through. These authentic voices are a reminder that behind every screen is a human being, with a unique way of seeing the world.

More Than Just a Portfolio

Whether it’s a niche hobby, an obsession with a programming concept, or an aesthetic that says “this is mine,” those personal touches made certain websites more memorable to me. A few that left a strong impression on me include:

  • meowni.ca/: Monica uniquely crafts her professional website as a genuine hub, showcasing technical depth alongside a vibrant artistic spirit.
  • passo.uno/: Fabrizio's blog stands out by blending his expertise as a technical writer with a distinctly personal and philosophical approach to communication.
  • joshwcomeau.com/: Josh's blog is a masterclass in combining technical expertise with a playful personality. He doesn't shy away from expressing his individuality, making complex topics approachable and enjoyable.

These sites aren't trying to be something they're not. They're not chasing trends or trying to appeal to the broadest possible audience with generalized content. Instead, they embrace their creators' unique perspectives and passions. What truly unites them isn’t a specific design choice or format, it’s the unmistakable presence of a person. You can tell what they care about. You can sense what excites them. For me, that's where authenticity truly lies, in the willingness to say "This is me, this is what I love, and this is how I share it."

Building a Space That Feels Like Me

Seeing how others bring their full selves into their blogs has made me rethink what I want mine to be. More than a portfolio or a collection of polished thoughts, I want it to be a reflection of the things that energize me: the ideas that light me up, the tools I’m experimenting with, the questions that won’t let me go.

That’s the kind of digital space I want to build. One that feels human, curious, and alive. And that’s the kind of presence I hope to bring into the work I share — whole, honest, and open enough to make others feel like they can do the same.
